Israeli Ad-Tech Firm Allegedly Helped Deploy Spyware Against Journalists, Report Finds

According to a report by Citizen Lab, it was discovered that Israeli advertisement technology company Discover-Tech assisted in deploying highly advanced spyware from Israeli cyber-surveillance company Candiru onto the devices of journalists and employees at Al Jazeera through their advertisements. Through a new-found technique referred to as the “zero-click” targeted advertisement technique, malicious advertisements covertly infected the devices of anyone who viewed them, enabling the extraction of sensitive files, usernames and passwords, keylogger data, and communications on the device without alerting any security systems. Confident also found that the malicious advertisements had infiltrated the systems of the US Department of Defense, the UN International Atomic Energy Agency, and the International Criminal Court.
